Includes a lengthy statement from Perez Morton defending himself from the "false suggestion, and gross misrepresentations of a man ... that I had undertaken in the way of my professions to free the negroes, who were held as slaves in this state. This charge I there not only utterly denied, but pledged my honor to clear up : assuring him, that in no single instance ... was the right of holding them as slaves ever made a question ...
