Writes to his uncle about Baltimore at the beginning of the Civil War. Informs that he sold Cheston's NY funds and will send the gold as soon as he can. Reports that he talked with someone at the Savings Bank who said the run on the bank had fizzled and that they will be receiving deposits again soon. He feels that a majority would vote for a Secession Ordinance if one is brought up. States, "Yesterday a number of flags both Secession & Union, were displayed in different parts of the city, ... the Board of Police ordered that they should all be taken down, which was done without any trouble." Writes that the Government has control of the road from Annapolis to Washington to transport troops.
