WARREN SCHWARTZ Company B. Fifteenth Engineer Battalion Fort Bragg, North Carolina
June 23, 1941
Dear Grandma and Grandpa Father time trods on with heavy leaden steps, as I impatiently await the ending of this his longest and slowest year. Arrived back in camp from Washington, DC this morning about five thirty beating reveille by half an hour. It took us about seven and half hours to dover the mileage. I spent all day yesterday exploring Washington, as this is my first visit there. Enjoyed myself throughly, the only trouble being that the time for departure came around too soon. This morning, my platoon left for Durham, NC to participate in a parade there. It's about eighty miles from here, and it's far too long a ride. Being rations man, I didn't have to go, which doesn't hurt my feelings in the slightest. Isn't it too bad about "Cous" and I? I have to go away over the weekend, and there is nothing I can do about it. I hope dad will be able to get in touch with "Cous" and get him down here a day earlier, if he can so arrange his trip. They are starting to move out the drafters from Fort Bragg now that their training
