3. There was other good news today. The official announcement that the American allies and Russians had met. When I think back a few months I remember how I said when that happened I would be rotting in the gutter, drunk. But the news passes with hardly a comment. The whole sense of its dramatic meeting has been lost. Somehow perhaps it is because Roosevelt wasn't here to announce it in his exciting manner. I remember too how we all said we would get stinky when V.E. day came. The day is not far off and already we know, we will not feel the days' events in the way we planned or expected. Perhaps it is the terrible news of the horrors in the concentration camps and perhaps we are all tired, who knows. Maybe the world is becoming less subject to the sensational, maybe that's good. Anyway toots, so goes the ads. They slip by so fast, my goodness isn't that nice?
